University offers faculty and staff new option to support Haiti relief

Faculty and staff can now use payroll deduction to make a donation to the American Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief. Those interested in participating can visit the Human Resources web site for more information.

The idea for the payroll deduction option came from a staff member, said Mike Tesh, associate vice president for Human Resources. “We simply wanted to give faculty and staff the flexibility to use payroll deduction if they want to contribute. We chose the American Red Cross because of its universal credibility, trust and respect.

“This also establishes a convenient way for faculty and staff to respond the next time a disaster strikes, whether it’s in Haiti or anywhere else.”

The payroll deduction option is only for those who wish to contribute to the American Red Cross. Those wishing to contribute to other organizations can find a list on the “Haiti Outreach” Web site that the University established after the earthquake.

“I know that the spirit of Pro Humanitate will continue to guide and inspire our Wake Forest response to the disaster,” President Nathan O. Hatch said. “I can think of no more generous place than Wake Forest, and I know that our collective response in the days, weeks and months ahead will be generous and thoughtful.”
