Media Advisory: GOP: Will Southern talk hurt y’all in November in NC?

Will the GOP candidates’ blatant pandering to Southern voters this week hurt the party’s chance at winning North Carolina in the fall?

Though many Southern voters see through their sudden use of y’all, appetite for grits, and endorsement by Jeff Foxworthy, their insulting-to-some Southern strategies might not hurt them in the fall election – even in NC as a swing state, which President Obama carried in the 2008 election.

David Coates, Worrell Professor of Anglo American Studies at Wake Forest University, Huffington Post columnist and author of Making the Progressive Case Towards a Stronger U.S. Economy, is available for comment today.

Critical of Obama’s centrism, Coates offers strong views on issues such as jobs, gas prices, housing, immigration and health care.
