WFU hosts Lavender Graduation for LGBTQ students and allies April 27

What and When: Wake Forest University will honor graduating LGBTQ students and allies at its third annual Lavender Graduation ceremony on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m.

“Lavender Graduation is a time to celebrate our LGBTQ and ally students who have contributed to the rich diversity of our campus culture,” said Angela Mazaris, founding director of Wake Forest’s LGBTQ Center. “Our celebration of this remarkable group of students is particularly special this year in light of the passage of HB2. Lavender Graduation demonstrates our University’s commitment to inclusion as well as the exceptional courage, creativity, and diversity of our graduating class.”

Who: The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of 28 undergraduate and graduate students.

In addition to Mazaris, speakers will include:

  • Jessica Devaney (’06), creative producer, communications strategist and co-producer of the Peabody Award winning short My Neighbourhood, who will deliver the keynote address;
  • President Nathan O. Hatch, Wake Forest University; and
  • Vice President for Campus Life Penny Rue, Wake Forest University.
