Wake Forest names Annette L. Ranft as Dean of the School of Business

Wake Forest University has named Annette L. Ranft as the next Dean of the School of Business. Ranft comes to Wake Forest from Auburn University, where she serves as Dean and Wells Fargo Professor at the Harbert College of Business.

At 3 p.m. on Feb. 23, about 225 people gathered at the Millennium Center in downtown Winston-Salem for a vigil commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Winston-Salem sit-in. Organized by Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State universities, the event featured remarks by Wake Forest President Nathan O. Hatch and Winston-Salem State Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson, a keynote address by WFU Dean of the School of Divinity Jonathan L. Walton and music by The WSSU Singing Rams.

Ron Wellman to retire as Wake Forest Athletic Director, John Currie named AD

After nearly 27 years leading the Wake Forest University athletic department, Ron Wellman will retire as Athletic Director on May 1, 2019. Wake Forest President Nathan O. Hatch has selected John Currie to succeed Wellman as the University’s sixth athletic director.

Deacs defeat No. 23 Temple to win Military Bowl

Wake Forest football jumped out to a 31-7 lead and held on to defeat No. 23-ranked Temple 34-26 to win the 2016 Military Bowl. The victory was the Demon Deacons’ first bowl win since 2008 and the first victory over a ranked team since 2011.

Wake Forest finishes as runner-up in national title

After 110 scoreless minutes, the Wake Forest men’s soccer team came up a penalty kick short of the national championship, falling to Stanford, 5-4, in penalties in Houston on Sunday afternoon. WFU’s Ian Harkes was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the College Cup.

Harkes’ goal sends WFU to national championship game

Ian Harkes netted a breakaway goal in the 103rd minute to lift second-ranked Wake Forest men’s soccer to a 2-1 victory in double overtime over Denver on Friday night to move on to the national championship game on Sunday in Houston.
