Dave and Catherine Clawson give $250,000 for scholarship fund

Dave and Catherine Clawson will make it possible for even more students to benefit from the transformational opportunity to attend Wake Forest University with a $250,000 gift to create a new scholarship. The donation establishes the Dave and Catherine Clawson Scholarship. The Clawsons made this gift in support of Wake Forest President Susan R. Wente’s new scholarship initiative that she announced at her inauguration ceremony on March 25.

Wake Forest University and Guilford College are co-hosting the spring Universities Studying Slavery (USS) Conference, expected to bring scholars from throughout the country to the Triad. The four-day conference, titled “Pandemics, Protests and the Legacies of Slavery,” runs from Wednesday, March 30, to Saturday, April 2.

Wake students to dance, raise money for cancer research

At age 5 months, Wake Forest sophomore Gabrielle Peko was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy treatments and some surgeries, she was pronounced in remission at age 2. On Saturday, March 19, Peko will join more than 1,000 Wake students at Wake ‘N Shake, an annual dance marathon that raises money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. The event runs from noon to midnight in the Sutton Center.
