Jay Bilas: Time to reform the NCAA

First-year students visited Reynolda House Museum of American Art on Aug. 23 as part of this year’s summer “reading” project. Rather than reading an assigned book, new students studied a painting, “The Andes of Ecuador.”

The Character Project

aBecause understanding character lies at the heart of human identity, philosophers, psychologists and theologians have long wrestled with how to define good character and how to improve character.

Wake Forest professors Christian Miller (philosophy), William F. Fleeson (psychology) and Michael R. Furr (psychology) have been awarded a $3.67 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation for The Character Project, an exploration of the nature of character.

Wake Forest graduates 1,600 students

The odds finally caught up with Wake Forest’s Commencement ceremony. For the first time since 1991, rain forced University officials to move the ceremony from Hearn Plaza to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

New divinity school dean named

Gail R. O’Day, a respected New Testament scholar and currently senior associate dean at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, has been named dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity.

Muslim associate chaplain named

Khalid Griggs, imam of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, has been named Wake Forest’s first Muslim chaplain. Imam Griggs will serve as a part-time associate chaplain to provide religious leadership for the University’s growing Muslim community.
