What and When: Wake Forest University will honor graduating LGBTQ students and allies at its fourth annual Lavender Graduation ceremony on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m.
“From the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage to negative impacts of North Carolina’s HB2, our students have endured the legal, social and emotional ups and downs of LGBTQ rights in America,” said Angela Mazaris, founding director of Wake Forest’s LGBTQ Center. “Lavender Graduation demonstrates Wake Forest’s enduring commitment to inclusion as well as the incredible perseverance, creativity, and diversity of our graduating class.”
Who: The ceremony will celebrate approximately 25 undergraduate and graduate students and their achievements.
In addition to Mazaris, speakers will include:
- Provost Rogan Kersh
- Keynote Speaker Fahim Gulamali (’14), Assistant Director, Pro Humanitate Institute, Wake Forest University
- Seniors Madeline Coffey (’17) and Justice Von Maur (’17)
