Guest Pianist to Perform
Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Rita Dove will read her poetry from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Wake Forest University’s Brendle Recital Hall.
Guest pianist Alice Wilkinson will perform at Wake Forest University Thursday, March 25, at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
Admission is free.
The program will include music by Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Chopin. An advocate for 20th century music, Wilkinson will also perform a 1995 composition by Eric Sawyer.
She made her first solo appearance at age 14 with the North Carolina Symphony. In 1985, she made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall. As an orchestral soloist, she has also performed with the Boston Pops, the North Shore Philharmonic, Duke University Symphony and Triangle Symphony.
Wilkinson, who was on the piano faculty at Duke University for several years, is a faculty member at the Longy School of Music in Boston. She attended Wake Forest from 1952-54, before completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees at The Julliard School.
The recital is part of Wake Forest’s Year of the Arts, a yearlong celebration of the arts featuring special performances, exhibitions, lectures and other events.
