WFU to Present Holiday Choral Concert
Wake Forest University’s annual holiday choral concert will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in Brendle Recital Hall.
Directed by Brian Gorelick, three Wake Forest choirs will present an hour of carols and seasonal selections. The choirs, beginning with the Choral Union, will perform individually. The ensemble will sing anthems by Benjamin Britten and Randall Thompson and carol arrangements of “The Holly and the Ivy” and “Wassail Song.”
The Collegium Vocal Ensemble, dedicated to the performance of early music, will sing arrangements of English carols, including “The Boar’s Head Carol” and “A Virgin Most Pure,” and present Maxwell’s “O’er the Solemn Hush of Midnight.”
The Concert Choir will perform Britten’s complete “A Ceremony of Carols,” accompanied by student harpist Krista Duran. They will also sing anthems by John Joubert, Peter Warlock and Wake Forest University composer-in-residence Dan Locklair.
Admission is free. Following the concert, contributions will be collected for the victims of Hurricane Mitch. For information, call 336-758-5026.
