Concert to Feature Concerto Competition Winners
The Wake Forest University Orchestra will present a concert featuring a faculty quartet and the winners of the Wake Forest student concerto competition on Wednesday, March 3.
The free concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
Conducted by David Hagy, the orchestra will perform Haydn’s “Sinfonia Concertante” featuring four Wake Forest faculty musicians: cellist Selina Carter, violinist Andrew Emmett, oboist Steven Jones and bassoonist Jonathan Julian.
Robert Ward Shaw, violinist and Wake Forest senior, will be the soloist for “Violin Concerto” by Robert Ward. The concerto has jazz as well as classical elements.
Karon Click, soprano and Wake Forest senior, will join the orchestra to perform MicaÎla’s Aria” from Bizet’s opera “Carmen.”
Hayden Drass, soprano and Wake Forest senior, will sing two selections from Puccini operas with the orchestra. She will perform “Musetta’s Waltz” from “La BohËme” and “Beautiful Dream” from “La Rondine.”
Kerry Grow, pianist and Wake Forest senior, will perform the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto.
