Two WFU choirs to present music of Randall Thompson
The Wake Forest University Concert Choir and Choral Union will present a free spring choral concert featuring the music of American composer Randall Thompson at 8 p.m. April 29 in Brendle Recital Hall.
The concert celebrates the 100th anniversary of Thompson’s birth and will include “Choose Something Like a Star,” from his collection of settings of Robert Frost poems. The Choral Union will also present “The Lord is My Shepherd,” featuring a virtuoso piano accompaniment.
The Concert Choir will sing four movements from Thompson’s a cappella choral cycle, “The Peaceable Kingdom,” concluding with the double chorus anthem, “Ye Shall Have a Song.” The women of the ensemble will sing “God’s Bottles” and the men will sing “Tarantella,” written by Thompson for the Yale Glee Club.
Both choirs will join to conclude the program with Thompson’s setting of “The Last Words of David” for chorus and piano.
The choirs will be conducted by Brian Gorelick, director of choral ensembles, and accompanied by Joanne Inkman, staff accompanist.
