WFU Consort presents early English music concert
The Wake Forest Consort will present “Pastime with Goode Companie,” a concert of early English music, at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 in Wake Forest University’s Brendle Recital Hall.
Composed of Wake Forest music department faculty members, the Wake Forest Consort was formed in 1983. The ensemble specializes in performance of music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque periods, using reproductions of period instruments and historical performance practices.
The concert will feature Teresa Radomski, soprano and organetto; Helen Rifas, harp; Selina Carter, viola da gamba; and Stewart Carter, recorder and viola da gamba. Guest artist Tom Turnbull will perform on recorder and harpsichord.
“Pastime with Goode Companie” will feature early popular English music and takes its title from a composition by King Henry VIII. Also included in the performance are works by John Dowland and Henry Purcell, as well as many traditional English songs and country dance tunes.
Admission is free. For more information, call 336-758-5026.
