Wake Forest art exhibit showcases works by alumnus
“Indulgence,” an exhibit featuring artwork by Wake Forest University graduate Greg Murr, will open Nov. 18 in the university’s Fine Arts Gallery in Scales Fine Arts Center.
The exhibit runs through Jan. 16 in the upstairs gallery.
The exhibit, made up of 15 pieces, includes mixed-media works of graphite and beeswax on plaster, and pastels and graphite on paper.
“Making art is about the exhilaration of being creator,” said Murr. “Each piece becomes a kind of puzzle that, instead of begging a solution, offers a sensory experience undermining my desire or need to resolve.”
Murr will lecture on his work Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. in Scales Fine Arts Center, Room 102. The lecture will include slides of Murr’s work.
An opening reception will be held Nov. 18 from 4-6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery.
A 1993 graduate of Wake Forest, Murr has taught at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy, and the University of New Mexico. His works have been exhibited internationally at galleries in Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria and Canada.
Wake Forest University Fine Arts Gallery is open weekdays, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m. weekends. For more information, call 336-758-5585, or visit www.wfu.edu/Academic-departments/Art/gall_index.html.
