Kilbourne to present program on images of women in advertising at Wake Forest Sept. 27

Lecturer and author Jean Kilbourne will present a program about women’s images in advertising at Wake Forest University’s Brendle Recital Hall Sept. 27 at 8 p.m.

Kilbourne is an expert on addictions, gender issues and the media. She has been internationally recognized for her work on alcohol and tobacco advertising, and on images of women in advertising. Her films, slide lectures and television appearances have been lauded by the media. New York Times Magazine has heralded her as one of the three most popular speakers on college campuses.

Kilbourne’s newest book, “Deadly Persuasion: Why Women and Girls Must Fight the Addictive Power of Advertising,” has received critical acclaim.

She is a frequent guest on radio and television programs including “The Today Show,” “20/20” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She has also served as an advisor to the Surgeon General and has testified before the U.S. Congress.
