Wake Forest community invited to watch presidential debate on giant screen
Wake Forest University students, faculty, staff and other members of the university community are invited to watch a live television feed of the Oct. 11 presidential debate in Wait Chapel on a giant screen on the Magnolia Quad. The event will take place as George W. Bush and Al Gore will face off in Wait Chapel from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Student leaders are planning additional activities to be held at the Magnolia Quad during the event. Details about these activities will be released soon.
“This is a great opportunity for students to come together with the rest of the Wake Forest community to watch the debate,” said Amanda Carlson, student government president. “It’s going to be very exciting to watch the event finally unfold on our campus after so much planning and study about the campaigns.”
Seating will be available on the Magnolia Quad on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are invited to bring blankets to sit on. Lawn chairs and other furniture are not allowed.
Students, faculty and staff do not need to pre-register for this event. Alumni, parents, friends and emeriti faculty must pre-register online at www.wfu.edu/alumni/presdebate/magquad.html. All participants must bring a valid Wake Forest ID card, or other picture ID to the event.
The Deacon Shop will set up a mobile merchandise shop for the event that will feature T-shirts, posters and other items with the 2000 Wake Forest debate logo. The mobile Deacon Shop will be located near the Magnolia Quad.
