Carolina Baroque performance to be held at WFU Feb. 28

Carolina Baroque, a music ensemble of Baroque-period instruments, will perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 28 in Wake Forest University’s Brendle Recital Hall. The program is free and open to the public.

The program, “Viva Voce!,” features two minioperas by G.F. Handel. The first, “Acis and Galatea,” gets its plot from Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” and features the nymph Galatea, the shepherd Acis and his rival, the giant Polyphemus.

The second opera, “Apollo and Daphne,” retells the classic myth of Apollo’s unrequited love for the nymph Daphne.

Associate Professor of Music Teresa Radomski, soprano, and Assistant Professor of Music Richard Heard, tenor, will perform in the production.

Carolina Baroque performs music of the Baroque period on instruments familiar to Monteverdi, Purcell, Buxtehüde, Vivaldi, Telemann, J.S. Bach and Handel. Since its founding in 1988, Carolina Baroque has received positive reviews for performances throughout the Southeast and on public television.
