Students to present concert celebrating Rachmaninoff’s birthday

Three Wake Forest student pianists and one student vocalist will present a recital honoring the birthday of Sergei Rachmaninoff on April 3.

The free concert begins at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall of Scales Fine Arts Center.

Elizabeth Machalek, a senior from Annandale, N.J., will perform “Prelude in B-minor, Op. 32, No. 10.” Lauren Toney, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., will follow with “Prelude in G, Op. 32, No. 5. Tenor Matthew Johnson, a senior from Fairfax, Va., will sing three Rachmaninoff selections accompanied by Wake Forest staff accompanist Jean Blackwood.

The all-Rachmaninoff program will conclude with senior Aaron Miller’s performance of “Concerto No. 2 in C minor.” Miller is from Brentwood, Tenn.
