Guest trumpet recital to be held at Wake Forest University

Emerson HeadEmerson Head, former director of instrumental music at Wake Forest University, will present a guest trumpet recital Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. in the Brendle Recital Hall at Wake Forest University’s Scales Fine Arts Center.

Head will be accompanied by Linda Mering on the piano. They will play selections from Georg Phillipp Telemann, Henry Purcell, Vittorio Giannini, Eugene Bozza, Julien Porret and J. Edward Barat.

Professor emeritus of music at the University of Maryland at College Park, Head has recently retired from five orchestras in the Washington, D.C., area, including the National Chamber Orchestra and the Theater Chamber Players at the Kennedy Center.

Head is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he was a recipient of the Stanley medal. He is a former principal trumpet of the Jacksonville and Winston-Salem Symphonies and the Brevard Music Festival Orchestra.

Mering holds a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Michigan, and is a former piano instructor at Salem College.
