Woodwind quintet to perform at WFU

Opus Five, a Wake Forest University woodwind quintet, will perform Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall at Scales Fine Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public.

The quintet consists of flutist Kathryn Levy, oboist Steven L. Jones, clarinetist Linda Julian, bassoonist Jonathan Julian and hornist Robert Campbell. They will perform selections from Paul Hindemith, Samuel Barber and Alexander Borodin.

Levy holds the principal flute position with the Winston-Salem Symphony and is the founder and director of The Silver Wind Flute Choir and The Silver Wind Flute Quartet. She is a flute lecturer in the Wake Forest music department.

Jones holds the assistant principal oboe position with the Winston-Salem Symphony and is a featured soloist on two Julie Hammarback CDs. He is an instructor of oboe in the Wake Forest music department.

Jonathan and Linda Julian hold the positions of principal bassoon and principal clarinet with the Piedmont Wind Symphony and are founding members and performers with the chamber ensemble, Mélange. They have had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and Europe, performing in recitals and recital series. They are both music instructors at Wake Forest, the North Carolina School of the Arts summer session and Salem College.

Campbell holds the positions of principal horn with the Greensboro Symphony and associate principal horn with the Winston-Salem Piedmont Triad Symphony. He is an instructor of horn in the Wake Forest music department.
