Winners of university competition perform at WFU

The Wake Forest University Orchestra will present a concert featuring the winners of the university’s October Concerto Competition on March 4 at 8 p.m. in the Brendle Recital Hall of the Scales Fine Arts Center on campus. The program is free and open to the public.

Bassoonist Sasha Gee Enegren, a Wake Forest junior, will present the first movement of Mozart’s Second Concerto for flute with senior flutist Katherine Anderson and the first movement of Johann Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto with freshman trumpeter Gregory Aikens.

Baritone Charles Meininger, soprano Allison Jones and baritone Jonathan Horvath, all Wake Forest seniors, will perform Maurice Ravel’s song cycle “Don Quixote to Dulcinea” and two pieces, “Dedication” and “Cecily,” composed by Richard Strauss. The trio will also perform the Richard Rodgers “Soliloquy” from the musical “Carousel.”

The orchestra will conclude the concert with Richard Wagner’s prelude to “The Masterpieces from Nuremberg.”

Orchestra director David Hagy will conduct the concert.
