Lecturer delves into Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ at WFU
The Wake Forest University Department of Music will host a lecture about George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” with Howard Pollack, author and professor of music history at the University of Houston, April 5 at 4 p.m.
The free lecture will be held in Scales Fine Arts Center, Room M308.
Pollack, who is a prolific writer, is currently working on a critical biography of George Gershwin. He has written four books, including critical biographies of Aaron Copland, Walter Piston and John Alden Carpenter, and numerous articles and reviews for journals and encyclopedias.
At the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, Pollack annually teaches the final sequence of the music history survey (from 1870 to the present) as well as graduate seminars, including one on Gershwin.
