Alexander Sanger, grandson of renowned family planning advocate Margaret Sanger and a longtime leader in the reproductive rights movement, will give a free, public lecture at Wake Forest University at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in Annenberg Forum located in Carswell Hall, Room 111.
Sanger’s lecture is titled after his recent book, “Beyond Choice: Reproductive Freedom in the 21st Century.” Sanger, who believes that reproductive freedom is in jeopardy in the United States, says he finds both the pro-choice and pro-life positions necessary but insufficient. According to a recent book review, Sanger offers the first major re-thinking of these positions in 30 years. He contends that abortion is neither morally right nor morally wrong and that the issue should be viewed as a reproductive one, not a rights one.
A book signing will be held following the lecture.
The event is sponsored by the women’s and gender studies program, WISE (Women’s Initiative for Support and Empowerment) and Planned Parenthood.
