VETERANS DAY CEREMONY AT WFU HONORS SERVICEMEN/WOMEN — Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest Army ROTC program will honor those who have served the United States through military service at a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. The event, which will be held at the flag pole in Perritt Plaza located between Benson University Center and Reynolda Hall, is free and open to the public. Lt. Col. James Page, former professor of military science at Wake Forest, will speak on “Passing the Baton.” All veterans in attendance will be recognized and presented with a small memento in honor of their service. The event is sponsored by the Wake Forest military science department (ROTC).

D.I.Y. BAND PERFORMS SOLD-OUT CONCERT AT WAIT CHAPEL — O.A.R. (Of a Revolution), considered by the music industry to be one of the most successful D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) bands in recent history, will perform to a sell-out crowd at Wait Chapel Nov. 12. Doors open at 7 p.m. Opening acts are Ari Hest at 7:15 p.m. and Ben Lee at 8 p.m.

AWARD-WINNING PLAYWRIGHT JOSÉ RIVERA HOLDS READING — José Rivera, award-winning playwright and screenwriter of the new film “The Motorcycle Diaries,” will hold a reading at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Ring Theatre of Scales Fine Arts Center of his play “Brainpeople.” A “talk-back” with the playwright and the cast will follow the reading.

WAKE FOREST CELEBRATES LIFE, JOY AND GOODNESS AT DIWALI — In a first-time collaborative effort, Wake Forest University’s Asian Student Interest Association (A.S.I.A.) and the Indo-US Association of Winston-Salem will celebrate Diwali, the Indian New Year, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 14 in Benson University Center, Room 401. The event will feature 10 performances — including singing, Indian dancing and a fashion show — a catered dinner and an after-party with D.J. Desi from Atlanta. Tickets for Wake Forest students are free and are available at the Benson Center Ticket Office. Tickets for the general public are available at the door. Tickets for Indo-US Association members are free. Tickets for non-member families are $30; non-member individual tickets are $15; and non-Wake Forest student tickets are $10 with ID.

PACE COMMUNICATIONS FOUNDER TO DELIVER BABCOCK LECTURE — Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, chair of the American Red Cross, founder and CEO of Pace Communications Inc., and former ambassador to Finland, will deliver the Babcock Leadership Series lecture at 2 p.m. Nov. 16 in Room 1312 of the Worrell Professional Center at Wake Forest University. The free, public lecture is part of the Babcock Graduate School of Management’s Babcock Leadership Lecture Series.

CONCERT FEATURES CHOREOGRAPHY OF WALT DISNEY CASTING DIRECTOR — Kenneth Green, casting director for Walt Disney Entertainment, will be among six artists presenting choreography at the Fall Faculty/Guest Artist Dance Concert featuring the Wake Forest Dance Company. His jazz piece “Idol Songs” is set to music by “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard and runners up Clay Aiken and Tamyra Gray. Work will also be presented by North Carolina native and guest artist Tina Yarborough, artistic director of Otésha Creative Arts Ensemble, and four other faculty members. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-20 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 21. Tickets are available at the door; $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and children.
