“Free Space 2004 — The Bridge” premieres at WFU

The Alban Elved Dance Company, in collaboration with faculty members from the computer science department at Wake Forest University, will present “Free Space 2004 — The Bridge,” the third production in the dance company’s series of performances combining dance and technology. performance will be held at 8 p.m. Dec. 2-4 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 at the MainStage Theatre of Scales Fine Arts Center.

The production, which incorporates digital poetry, multimedia interpretations, mathematical interplay, technology and people, is designed to encourage audiences to explore their creative relationship with technology.

“The Bridge” features two pieces. The first provides a look at “life within the machine,” including concepts of computer and human language, abstractions of computation called “Turing machines” and the binary language of zeros and ones. The second piece expresses the connection between nature and human imagination through 3-D stereo computer animation. The audience will wear polarized 3-D glasses to watch the performance.
