Famed high school basketball coach Ken Carter will speak at Wake Forest University at 8 p.m. Jan. 19 in Benson University Center, Room 401. A book signing will be held following the lecture.

Coach Carter is famous for locking his undefeated, state play-off bound basketball team out of the gym and forcing them to hit the books. In his lecture titled “Average is Just Not Good Enough. PERIOD!”, he will provide hard-hitting advice for people both on the court and off regarding integrity, accountability and leadership. Using his own experiences at Richmond High School in Richmond, Calif., Carter will explain how one person can maximize his or her potential and make positive changes in the community.

The upcoming Paramount Pictures film “Coach Carter,” scheduled for release Jan. 14 and starring Samuel L. Jackson as Carter, is based on Carter and the lock-out.

The event is sponsored by the Wake Forest Student Union. Tickets are $15 general admission; $10 with Wake Forest ID. Tickets are available at the Benson University Center Ticket Office. To order tickets, call 336-758-4265.

NOTE TO THE EDITOR: Television crews can tape during the first 10 minutes of the lecture. Ken Carter will be available for interviews.
