Wake Forest University will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with two annual events. On Jan. 17, Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) will co-host their fourth annual “Performing the Dream” celebratory event, and on Jan. 22, Wake Forest will hold its 7th Annual MLK Invitational Basketball Tournament.

This year, “Performing the Dream” will feature an invitation-only dinner at Wake Forest in the Magnolia Room of Reynolda Hall at 4 p.m and a free public program at 7 p.m. at the K.R. Williams Auditorium at WSSU. The program will include readings, performances by A.R.T., Inspirational Voices and the Wake Forest Gospel Choir and an address by Evie Shockley, assistant professor of English at Wake Forest.

The Invitational Basketball Tournament will begin at 1 p.m. Jan. 22 in Reynolds Gymnasium on the Wake Forest campus. Teams from North Carolina A&T State University, WSSU, Johnson C. Smith University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte have been invited to participate. Semi-finals will begin at 7 p.m. Finals will take place at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Admission to the tournament is free.
