Holland & Corn to perform concert at WFU
Classical guitar duo Holland & Corn will perform at Wake Forest University in Brendle Recital Hall 8 p.m. Feb. 4. The concert is free and open to the public.
Murray Holland and Duane Corn describe their work as “an exploration in music for two guitars that draws its roots from the folk and popular music traditions of North, Central and South America.” The two met while completing their graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and became a duo in 1995.
In 1999, they were the only representatives from the United States invited to perform in one of Mexico’s well-known music festivals, the V Festival Cervantes en Todas Partes in Guanajuato, Mexico. In 2000 Holland & Corn performed “Ballet Equus et Homo,” a commissioned work choreographed to portions of their CD “Song & Dance,” with the Kentucky Ballet Theatre in Lexington.
Both Holland and Corn earned master’s degrees in classical guitar performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In addition to their work as a duo, both perform as soloists.
