This summer, children can take time out from the heat and cool off by exploring the cultures of the Arctic in “Snow Goggles in Summer?! The Arctic” at the Wake Forest University Museum of Anthropology summer camps.
Camps meet the weeks of June 13, 20, 27 and the week of July 11. Campers will learn about the beliefs and practices of Arctic peoples. Activities will include making snow goggles, creating special Arctic yo-yos, “hunting” for geese with devices called bolas, as well as learning about artwork, stories and games.
Camps take place weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and are for students who have completed grades 1-5. Camp fees, $85 (community) and $70 (museum members), include supplies and daily snacks. On the Friday of each camp week, campers will present what they have learned during the week in a program for parents.
