presented a research paper, “All is Fair in Love and War?: Militarization and Romances Between Soldiers and Free Trade Zone Workers in Sri Lanka,” at Cambridge University, United Kingdom, as part of their workshop exploring relational life in South Asia.

- Gloria Muday
received funding from the National Science Foundation for her proposal, “Arabidopsis 2010 Project Collaborative Research: Modeling Biological Networks in Arabidopsis Through Integration of Genomic, Proteomic, and Metabolomic Data.”
Communication
- Candyce Leonard
published a review of “Sueños de Arena” by Antonio Rojano in a theatre journal, Estreno Vol. 36.1 (Spring 2010) 99-100.
- Linda Petrou
was part of a 10-day academic cultural tour of Turkey sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation. She was a faculty leader for The Washington Center’s Seminar, “Top Secret: Challenges to National Security in a Global System.”
- Alessandra Beasley Von Burg
presented a paper, “Cosmopolitanism of Reason and Respect: Stoic and Kantin Rhetorics for the Irrationality of Citizenship,” at the American Society for the History of Rhetoric Pre-Conference in Minneapolis.
Health and Exercise Science
- Steve Messier
received funding from the Army Research Office for his proposal, “Towards the Reduction of Knee Injuries in the Military.”
Music
- Stewart Carter
presented a paper at the Antiquae Musicae Italicae Studiosi Conference in Italy in 2007, “Musical Form and Liturgical Function in the Late-Seventeenth-Century Motet: The Case of Isabella Leonarda,” which was recently included in the conference publication.
- Dan Locklair
had his organ music, “Glory and Peace,” performed at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, CA, for the Conroy Memorial Organ Dedication Recital Series.
Political Science
- Michaelle Browers
received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to complete a book, “Arab Shi’i Political Thought Since 1958: A Generation’s Politicization.”
Psychology
- Mike Furr
received funding from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for his proposal, “Binge Drinking: Individual Differences in the Capacity to Alter Drinking Patterns.”
Sociology
- Joseph Soares
was the featured speaker at a national conference, “Testing the Limits and Limiting the Test,” for the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools at Agnes Scott in Atlanta. His research was instrumental in Wake Forest University’s Rethinking Admissions efforts.
Z. Smith Reynolds Library
- Kevin Gilbertson
received a Next Gen Librarian Award from Lyrasis for his work related to the ZSR study room reservation feature, the Digital Forsyth website and the Toolkit collection of short videos demonstrating skills needed for library research.

made a presentation, “Blogging as Scholarship,” as part of the UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries’ event, “Beyond Impact Factor: Understanding & Supporting Scholarly Work in the New Academy.”
