Lion dancers, drummers, and kung fu performers will join Wake Forest students and the community to celebrate the “Year of the Snake.” The Chinese New Year Festival will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. in Benson University Center, Room 401, on the University’s Reynolda campus.
This annual event, hosted by the Wake Forest Asian Student Interest Association (ASIA) with support from the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Chinese Student Scholar Association, features performances and activities that highlight various aspects of Chinese culture.
Students from the Chinese School of Winston-Salem, K-6 graders, will put on a talent show including poetry and musical acts.
There will also be a selection of authentic Chinese food such as dumplings, rice cakes and fried red bean cakes.
The Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. This 15 day festival begins on the first day of the lunar calendar and marks the beginning of spring. The holiday has been observed for centuries and is celebrated worldwide.
Ting Jiang, president of ASIA, will be available for interviews the day of the festival.
The event is free and open to the public.
