‘Metamorphic’ to be the focus of TEDxWakeForestU

Wake Forest University will host TEDxWakeForestU, an independently organized event licensed by TED, on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Wait Chapel.

‘Metamorphic,’ the theme of Wake Forest’s TEDx event this year, focuses on the world’s constant progress towards a better future. The event is free for students, faculty, and staff with a valid WFU ID. Tickets are $15 for the general public. Register here.

2019 speakers

  • Elizabeth Clendinning, a music professor at Wake Forest, specializes in ethnomusicology and teaches classes on world music. Clendinning will discuss music-making, leadership and building cross-cultural communities.
  • Dr. Lorraine Gudas, a professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Weill Cornell Medical College, researches cancer preventive uses of Vitamin A, therapeutic uses of stem cells, and drugs to treat prostate and kidney cancers.
  • Michelle Johnson, activist, author, yogi, healer and social change influencer.
  • Mastin Kipp, author of “Daily Love: Growing into Grace” and “Claim Your Power,” will discuss what it means to understand and celebrate differences in the context of traumas.
  • Mark Lanterman, chief technology officer of Computer Forensic Services, will discuss the Dark Web, the Internet of Things, phishing, cybercrime and tips for cyber protection.
  • Jim Otteson, Presidential Chair for Wake Forest University’s Business Ethics and Executive Director of the Eudaimonia Institute, specializes in political economy and the history of economic thought.
  • Jay Schroeder, founder of the EVO UltraFit Training System, developed new physical therapy and training techniques that have revolutionized the healing process for professional athletes.
  • Ben Sutton Jr., founder and chairman of Teall Capital and previous chairman and CEO of IMG College, philanthropist and entrepreneur.
