WFDD Exceeds Goal in Fall Fundraising Campaign

Listeners pledged $215,518 to help radio station WFDD (88.5 FM) beat the $200,000 goal for its annual fall fundraising campaign. The pledged amount does not include proceeds from an ongoing $10-a-ticket raffle for two tickets to the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament March 6-9 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Cleve Callison, station manager of Wake Forest University’s National Public Radio affiliate, said that raffle proceeds will be added to the pledge total after Dec. 11, when the station will close raffle ticket sales. Raffle tickets are available by calling (910) 759-8850.

“We’re very pleased to have exceeded the goal for this year’s campaign,” Callison said, “particularly since there was uncertainty about some recent programming changes. We will be analyzing the results of the campaign and the member survey that went out with it once they come back to the station, but we’re pleased with the support from the community.”

The average pledge was 2.6 percent more than 1995, Callison said. The station received 2,708 pledges, including 835 new ones, during the campaign that began at 6 a.m. Nov. 7 and ended at 10 p.m. on Nov. 13. More than 300 volunteers from about 30 different civic groups and businesses in the Triad helped ensure the campaign’s success, Callison said.
