Wake Forest University’s fall choral concert will highlight the music of Schubert and Brahms on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
The Choral Union, a 56-voice mixed ensemble, will perform sacred and secular music by Franz Schubert on the 200th anniversary of his birth, including “Salve Regina,” a sacred composition for mixed chorus and piano. In honor of the 100th anniversary of Johannes Brahms’ death, the choir will sing his secular song “Wondrous Cool, Thou Woodland Quiet.”
The 44-voice Concert Choir also will perform music by Schubert and Brahms. The ensemble will sing Schubert’s entire “Mass in G” and Brahms’ “Four Gypsy Songs.”
Brian Gorelick, director of choral ensembles, will conduct. Joanne Inkman will accompany the group on piano.
Senior music major Andrew Clark will conduct a special ensemble that will perform music by Palestrina, Mendelssohn and Bartok. The choir will conclude with Alice Parker’s arrangement of the hymn “Amazing Grace.”
