The Wake Forest Collegium Musicum Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles will present a concert titled, “A Musical Banquet: Italian Music of the 16th and 17th Centuries,” on April 13 at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
The program will feature madrigals and secular works written in Italian by representative composers of the 16th and early 17th centuries. The Collegium Musicum instrumentalists perform on reproductions of period instruments, including recorders, violas da gamba and sackbuts. The featured composers are Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, Costanzo Festa, Jacob Arcadelt, Orlando di Lasso, Luca Marenzio and others.
Brian Gorelick, assistant professor of music, directs the vocal ensemble and Stewart Carter, professor of music, directs the instrumental ensemble.
