WFU calendar of events for March

Feb. 7 – March 23
“Seeing Italy through Prints.” Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery. Downstairs gallery. Regular hours: Mon. – Fri., 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Forty prints from the collections of Wake Forest University, the Georgia Museum of Art, and the University of North Carolina’s Ackland Museum give a glimpse of the types of monuments and masterpieces that were reproduced, collected and distributed through engravings, etchings and woodcuts throughout Europe before the invention and popularity of the photograph. “Kimono: Constructing a National Image,” exhibit open for viewing. Museum of Anthropology. Museum hours: 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Tues. – Sat. Wake Forest University Press Sixth Annual Irish Festival. The festival will feature six days in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day including music and dance, poetry readings, traditional storytelling, Irish food and craft activities. For more information, call 336-758-5448.

Irish Festival events include:

  • March 15 Community Day at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, adjacent to campus at 2250 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem. Noon. Activities will include the live music of the Morris Family, Irish dancing by Rince na h’Eireann (The Triad Irish Dancers), Irish storytelling by Andrew Leslie and children’s arts and crafts. Free, food will be available for purchase.
  • March 15 – 17 “Belfast Blues,” a one-woman two-act show by Geraldine Hughes about growing up in Belfast. March 15 at 7:30 p.m., March 16 at 2 p.m. and March 17 at 7:30 p.m., the Ring Theatre of the Scales Fine Arts Center. Tickets available at the door.
  • March 17 Whirligig, Celtic band. 8 p.m. at Ziggy’s, 433 Baity Street in Winston-Salem. $5 at the door. March 18 Irish storytelling of Eddie Lenihan. 7:30 p.m., at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, 750 Marguerite Drive in Winston-Salem. Admission prices to be announced.
  • March 19 Irish poetry reading. 7:30 p.m., second-floor reading room of Carswell Hall. Irish poets Caitríona O’Reilly and David Wheatley will read from their work. Free.
  • March 20 Irish Poetry Recitation Contest. 11 a.m., at Shorty’s inside the Benson University Center. Free.
