WFU orchestra “haunts” audiences at annual Halloween concert

At the stroke of midnight Oct. 31, Wake Forest University’s orchestra will begin their unpredictable annual Midnight Halloween Concert at Brendle Recital Hall in Scales Fine Arts Center.

Bach’s famous “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” will begin the evening with traditional haunting sounds. Throughout the concert, orchestra members, dressed in Halloween costumes, will shock, scare and amuse both the audience and each other.

In this annual event, no one knows what will actually happen during the concert—not even the musicians. All of the costumes and “tricks and treats” are kept secret until the performance. “There is a running competition between the faculty and the students to see who can pull the best tricks on each other. Neither side knows the plans of the other, so this is truly live musical theater,” said conducter David Hagy.

Throughout the evening, the orchestra will play excerpts from music they will perform in future concerts, and special guests will interrupt the performance, making the evening exciting, spooky and fun.

The midnight concert is open to the public. Tickets are free, but they must be reserved. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the music department at 336-758-5364.
