Four Wake Forest players were selected in the NFL Draft over the weekend: Aaron Curry (fourth overall pick, Seattle); Alphonso Smith (Denver); Chip Vaughn (New Orleans); and Stanley Arnoux (New Orleans).
A big reason Wake Forest is the number two seed in this week’s ACC Tournament is the maturation of sophomores James Johnson and Jeff Teague. Wake Forest opens the tournament Friday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday night’s N.C. State/Maryland game.

Wake Forest (19-11) will have to wait until Monday to find out if the season will continue in the NCAA tournament or the WNIT.
The ninth-seeded women’s basketball team faces eighth-seeded N.C. State in the opening round of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament today at 3 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South.
James Johnson had career highs with 28 points and 18 rebounds to lead No. 13 Wake Forest past N.C. State 85-78 on Thursday night. Ishmael Smith added a season-high 18 points and Chas McFarland had 15 for the Demon Deacons (21-5, 8-5 ACC).
Jeff Teague had 28 points and James Johnson had 26, but Wake Forest couldn’t overcome a 22-point first-half deficit in losing to Duke, 101-91, in Durham on Sunday night.
Wake Forest stormed out to a 23-point first-half lead, then withstood a Georgia Tech rally that cut the lead to five in the second half, before rolling to an 87-69 rout Wednesday night in Joel Coliseum.
