ROTC Sponsors Road Race to Help Tornado Victims

The Wake Forest University Army ROTC is sponsoring the 5K Gold Bar Run on Friday, April 17, to raise disaster relief funds for tornado victims in Stoneville, N.C.

In March, a tornado swept through Stoneville in Rockingham County claiming the lives of two residents, injuring others and destroying businesses and homes. Road race proceeds will go to the American Red Cross for its disaster relief efforts in Stoneville.

The Gold Bar Run, which is open to the public, will include two races. A 5K relay race will begin at 4:30 p.m. and an individual 5K will begin at 5:30 p.m. All races will begin at the athletic field across from the university’s Worrell Professional Center.

Participants can run in more than one event and are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before their race.

Advance registration for college and high school students is $7 per person and $8 at the event. Registration for non-students is $10 per person. Each runner will receive a race T-shirt and top runners will be awarded prizes. Free refreshments will be provided.
