Vocal and instrumental groups to perform
The Wake Forest University Collegium Musicum Instrumental Ensemble will join the Collegium Musicum Vocal Ensemble to present “Bach and His Predecessors: A Concert of Early German Music” on April 22 at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
Performing on reproductions of recorders, krummhorns, violas da gamba and other period instruments, the instrumental ensemble will perform the music of Bach’s predecessors, including Hofhaimer, Isaac, Othmayr, Scheidt, Praetorius and Brade. The vocal ensemble, directed by Brian Gorelick, will perform choral music by Johann Sebastian Bach and his uncle Johann Christian Bach. The group will present J.C. Bach’s “Ich lasse dich nicht” for double chorus and will be joined by the instrumentalists for selected movements from J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 78 and Cantata No. 140.
