WFDD wins Arts Council grant

WFDD, Wake Forest University’s National Public Radio member station, was recently awarded a grant from the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County for an upcoming live music and interview program.

WFDD (88.5 FM) will use the $3,700 project assistance grant to help fund its cultural program, “Piedmont Showcase Live.”

Scheduled to begin airing in September from WFDD’s state-of-the-art Studio A, the program will highlight outstanding local musicians and those visiting the region. Kimberlea Daggy will host the series featuring on-air interviews and performances. Most programs will air at 3:45 or 3:50 PM on weekdays, immediately before NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Project assistance grants totaling $26,000 were awarded to 12 regional arts and cultural organizations.

The grants, funded through the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Arts Program, aim to support programs with artistic merit and community impact. Grants recognize and support exemplary forms of contemporary and traditional artistic expression in literature and the performing, visual, media and folk arts.
