Rise of Austria’s far-right party focus of lecture at Wake Forest

G¸nter Haika, a Viennese language instructor, will lecture on the rise of Jeorg Haider, leader of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party, at Wake Forest University on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m. in Scales Fine Arts Center, Room 102.

In his lecture, “How to Be a Demagogue: Haider’s Unwanted Rise to Power,” Haika will discuss last year’s Austrian election, which resulted in widespread protest from many Austrians and the European Union.

Haika, a native Austrian, is the language instructor and house manager for the Flow House, a Wake Forest study abroad center in Vienna. He has also taught for the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) in Vienna for 25 years.
