Emmy award-winning producer of ‘The Simpsons’ to speak at WFU April 9

Mike ReissMike Reiss, producer of “The Simpsons” and co-creator of “The Critic,” will speak at Wake Forest University at 8 p.m. on April 9. The event, sponsored by the Wake Forest Student Union, will be held in Benson University Center’s Pugh Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Reiss has won three Emmy Awards for his work on “The Simpsons,” which earned Time magazine’s vote as the greatest television show of the 20th century. Reiss has produced 150 episodes and written a dozen scripts during his seven seasons with the show. It is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Reiss was also recently featured in USA Today as one of the most prolific creators of Internet entertainment. He has created two Web-based series and an online version of “The Critic,” an animated series starring Jon Lovitz as Jay Sherman. “The Critic” is Shockwave.com’s most-viewed show.

Reiss has also written comedy for “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and Eddie Murphy’s “The PJ’s.” He won an ACE award for writing and producing for “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.” He has published satire, essays, poetry and detective fiction, in addition to a Christmas story for Jewish children. He has also lectured on comedy and animation extensively in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
