WFU police search for indecent exposure suspect

The Wake Forest University Police Department is searching for a man who has exposed himself to women on campus several times since September 2001. The most recent incident occurred Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the food court area of Wake Forest’s Benson University Center.

The man is described as African-American, 18-24 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, 180-190 pounds, with an athletic build and dark complexion. He usually is wearing a ball cap or other head apparel. The man is usually talking on a cellular phone before and during the incident. In the many of the incidents, the man has been seen fleeing campus on a dark blue or black mo-ped.

University police suspect that the same man is responsible for approximately 12 similar incidents on campus since last September. Another local college has also reported similar incidents by a man matching this description, according to Wake Forest police.

Wake Forest in October 2001 and June 2002 issued campus crime alerts to students, faculty and staff regarding the incidents. The student newspaper has also reported the incidents.

University police investigators encourage anyone with information about the case to call Winston-Salem Crimestoppers at 727-2800 or Wake Forest Crimestoppers at 758-4477.

A television news story that aired on Aug. 7 prompted several calls to university police and Winston-Salem police that are currently being investigated.
