WFU Police investigating student’s taxi ride

A student reported to Wake Forest University Police that he got into a taxi at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Jan. 19, and the unidentified driver refused to bring him directly back to campus. He caught the taxi after the Wake Forest men’s basketball game that night.

The driver, along with another unidentified man, reportedly drove the student around Winston-Salem, and the student eventually persuaded the men to bring him to campus shortly after midnight. The student reported that he was threatened and the men demanded money, but he told them that he did not have any money. The student was not robbed.

The student reported that he jumped out of the taxi near his residence, Collins Residence Hall, and sustained minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment. An investigation is continuing.
