National a cappella competition tour to stop at WFU
Wake Forest University will host the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) South Quarterfinals Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. in Wait Chapel.
In its seventh season, ICCA has brought together nearly 1,500 collegiate a cappella singers in 108 groups from around the U.S. and Canada. Five of those groups will be competing at Wake Forest: All Night Yahtzee and Acabelles from Florida State University, No Southern Accent from the University of Florida, TIGEROAR from Clemson University, Noteworthy from the University of Georgia and Wake Forest’s own Demon Divas.
The groups are competing for the chance to sing at New York’s Beacon Theater on Broadway as well as cash prizes.
The 25-show tournament runs from Jan. 31 to April 26. Six groups, regionally representing the South, New England/Central Canada, the MidAtlantic states, the Northeast, the Midwest and the West, will advance to the ICCA finals.
The competition will be hosted by Innuendo, a Wake Forest co-ed a cappella group. They will also perform between competitors.
Tickets are available in the Benson University Center Ticket Office or at www.varsityvocals.com for $5 each. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The show is sponsored in part by the Wake Forest Student Union and is open to the public. For more information, call 336-758-5697.
