WFU music department to host annual competition

The Wake Forest University music department will present the 26th annual Christopher Giles and Lucille S. Harris Competitions in Musical Performance March 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Brendle Recital Hall of the Scales Fine Arts Center. The competition is free and open to the public.

The music competitions, established by Paul and Sara Sinal, honor Christopher Giles, who taught piano at Wake Forest for 37 years before his death in 1996. The contest also honors retired piano instructor Lucille S. Harris.

Eight Wake Forest students will compete for cash prizes in the piano competition at 10 a.m. by performing selections from Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms.

Twenty-two Wake Forest students will compete for cash prizes in the open competition at 2 p.m. by performing selections from the 20th century.
