Advisory: media invited to talk with former CEO of TIAA-CREF John Biggs

Members of the media are invited to talk with recently retired chief executive officer of TIAA-CREF John Biggs March 27 at Wake Forest University. Biggs will be on campus to present a lecture titled “The Long-Term Effects on Corporate Governance from the Turn-of-the-Century Business Scandals” at 4:30 p.m. that day in Benson University Center’s Pugh Auditorium.

Biggs will have time before his lecture for interviews with the media. Reporters should plan to arrive by 4 p.m. in order to allow time for an interview. Still and video photographers may set up during the lecture along the back of the auditorium or to the side in the front. Radio reporters should bring portable recording devices, as Pugh Auditorium is not equipped with an audio box.

Contact the News Service in advance to arrange an interview.

Biggs’ lecture will discuss past efforts to improve accounting standards and how these efforts will influence the future of American business practices.

Under Biggs’ leadership, TIAA-CREF (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association College Retirement Equities Fund) created principle-based investment criteria and continues to play the role of shareholder activist for better corporate governance. Biggs was considered to head the Accounting Oversight Board established by former SEC chairman Harvey Pitt.
