Venetian pianist to perform at WFU
Giovanni Umberto Battel, director of the Venice Conservatory of Music and internationally known pianist, will perform selections from Chopin and Liszt April 11 at 8 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall in Wake Forest University’s Scales Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Born into a family of musicians near Venice, Battel has performed throughout the world, including London, Stockholm, Athens, Paris, Brussels and several cities in the United States. He won first prize in the international competitions of Senigallia, Stressa, Bolzano and Barcelona.
Battel’s appearance at Wake Forest is part of an exchange program between the university and the Venice Conservatory.
