Advisory: Media invited to attend WFU ‘Alcohol Speakout’

Members of the media are invited to hear hundreds of Wake Forest University students frankly discuss the issues surrounding alcohol use at the “Alcohol Speakout” Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in Wait Chapel. No administrators or university staff members will be present at the event so that students may more freely share their opinions.

Organized by the Wake Forest Greek system and the Greek Alcohol Advisory Council (GAAC), this year’s “Alcohol Speakout” commemorates the seventh-year anniversary of the deaths of Maia Witzl and Julie Hansen, two Wake Forest students killed by a drunk driver.

Attendees will hear from several student leaders, including campus Emergency Response Team captain Patrick Baron and Wake Forest football player Quintin Williams, about the effects of alcohol and the need for responsible social drinking. More than 1,000 students attended last year’s event.

For more information about media arrangements, contact either Pam Barrett at barretpm@wfu.edu or 336-758-5237 or another media relations officer.
