WFU seeks actors, musicians for “Monkey Business”
Wake Forest University Department of Theatre and Dance will hold auditions for the East Coast premiere of the new play “Monkey Business” Dec. 1 from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. and Dec. 2 from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. in the Ring Theatre of Scale Fine Arts Center. Callbacks will be held Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Written by Murray Ross, the play revolves around the infamous Scopes Trial, which focused Americans on evolution, freedom of speech, separation of church and state and due process. In “Monkey Business,” the Scopes Trial turns a peaceful mountain town into a carnival, and even the Marx brothers weigh in on the controversy.
The production calls for 25-30 actors of all ages and sizes as well as piano, drum, bass and banjo musicians. In addition to students, Wake Forest faculty and staff are invited to audition.
Scripts are available for loan in the Theatre Office, located in Room 219 of Scales Fine Arts Center.
Performances will be held Feb. 13-14 and Feb. 18-22 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. in the MainStage Theatre. Rehearsals will begin in January. The production will be directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Sharon Andrews.
